Dungeons & Dragons
Dungeons & Dragons (DnD) is a popular fantasy tabletop role-playing game in which players create their own characters and adventure together in a world full of magic, monsters and heroic deeds. The game is led by a so-called Dungeon Master (DM) or otherwise a narrator who tells the story, creates and describes the world, and controls all non-player characters and monsters. Players use the rules to create their character - choosing their race, profession, determining their abilities, background and personality. Players speak for their characters in the first person and decide their actions. Success or failure in actions (combat, spells, persuasion, traps) is determined by dice, most often a twenty-sided die (D20).
This game of Dungeons and Dragons (in the Czech version of Dragon's Den) is very specific and requires a high level of imagination from everyone, a willingness to engage and cooperate with others. Players need a player's manual to play, while the Dungoen master has his own manual. It is suitable for closed groups of players or friends who know each other.
One of the players, i.e. the Dungeon Master (DM), is the narrator and referee at the same time. He or she describes the setting, creates the plots, controls the monsters and NPCs (non-player characters), and ensures that everyone has fun and follows the rules. He is the brains and heart of the game. DnD combines narrative, strategy and imagination.
