After going through the crystal trilogy of Opus XII, Opus XIII and Opus XIV, the FFTCG now gains a new power. A portion of character abilities and professions now appear with a new price to pay, called " Crystals", not the usual "Crystal Points (CP)". Use abilities and more to get "Crystals", and try out the latest strategy. Dice or counters can be used to keep track of the number of crystals, but Crystal Dominion also includes two types of premium crystal cards, and these can also be used during the game.

Additionally, starting with this set, the product name will no longer contain the text "Opus" and instead will only contain the subtitle. In addition to ensuring that new players won't feel intimidated by the high number, the distinctive subtitle will lend an even stronger sense of the FINAL FANTASY atmosphere.

Legacy cards reappear in this set, with particularly popular cards from past sets included as premium cards with full art. The three included in Crystal Dominion are Ace [9-003L], Yiazmat [9-057L] and Ashe [10-106L].
